Posted On : 8/16/2011 by Kseniya Bublikova

The Belly Up, voted as San Diego’s best live music venue, is hosting a cultural affair complete with live music, art, and culture as well as a chance to mingle with some of San Diego’s finest tattoo artists and painters. This anticipated art and culture event is taking place on September 1 and comes complete with a performance by renowned Latin reggae artist, Sergent Garcia.

Doors will open at 7pm, with the art reception in full swing until 9pm, at which point Maiz and Sergent Garcia will take the stage ‘til midnight. This event will mark Sergent Garcia’s first performance at The Belly Up, seeing as how he hails all the way from France. Known for his unique ‘Jamaican meets Latin dancehall’ jams, Sergent Garcia has gained tons of international fans and sold legions of records. Opening up for Sergent Garcia is Maiz, a collaboration group made up of the Revelations, B*SIDE PLAYERS, and the drummer of Slightly Stoopid. This band has proved to be highly popular in the surf and tattoo community, and is sure to set a great vibe during the evening.

Tattoo artists will be present from some of San Diego’s supreme shops, including Flying Panther Tattoo, Picassos Tattoo, and possibly Big Fish Tattoo.  The Flying Panther is a well-reputed shop with amazing artists that are sure to add a lot to this cultural function in the form of art and personality. In addition, art will be displayed by Roots Factory, a grass-roots art collective used as an art school, performing arts locale, local screen printing shop, and print studio. The Roots Factory is known throughout the San Diego community for promoting culture and awareness. In addition, painters Sonia Lopez Chavez and Ricardo Islas will be displaying their work along with the skate art of Teddy Kelly.

The Belly Up, located at 143 S. Cedros Ave in Solano Beach, is a premier 21+ entertainment destination with kick-back clientele and an inviting atmosphere. For further information, visit bellyup.com.
