New Summer Concerts

Posted On : 3/28/2012 by George Varga

Early Friday morning, we exclusively announced the complete lineup for the 2012 Humphrey's Concerts by the Bay season, preceded by Wednesday's story about the Aug. 12 Kiss/Moltey Crue double-header at Cricket Wireless Amphitheatre. But those aren't the only new concerts headed to San Diego. More acts include Slightly Stoopid, Dwight Yoakam, Rita Wilson, Melissa Etheridge and One Direction.

Here, in chronological order, is what's coming up:

May 1: Rita Wilson, Anthology

May 26: Dwight Yoakam, Open Sky Theater, Harrah’s Rincon

June 8: One Direction, SDSU Viejas Arena

June 22: Melissa Etheridge, Open Sky Theater, Harrah’s Rincon

July 25: 311, Slightly Stoopid, Cricket Amphitheatre

Tickets for Wilson's Anthology show, part of her first tour ever, are now on sale at anthology.com. Wilson recently recorded her debut album, "Am/FM," which features cameos by Chris Cornell, Faith Hill, Jackson Browne and Sheryl Crow (but not, evidently, Wilson's husband, Tom Hanks).

Tickets for the Yokam and Etheridge concerts at Harrah's Rincon both go on sale Saturday at 10 a.m. Ticketmaster. Tickets for Yoakam are priced at $32 to $140 each, including service charges. Tickets for Etheridge are $47-$165, including service charges.

Tickets also go on sale Saturday at 10 a.m. at Ticketmaster for the Viejas Arena show by One Direction, the squeaky-clean young British teen-pop band that almost makes The Monkees seem like the Sex Pistols or Black Flag by comparison. The vocal quintet's debut album, "Up All Night," this week became the first British group to top the U.S. charts with its debut album. The group was masterminded by "American Idol"/"X Factor" poobah Simon Cowell and head Pussycat Doll Nicole Scherzinger.

Tickets for the 311/Slightly Stoopid show at Cricket go on sale at noon on March 31, although the show is currently not listed on the Cricket Wireless Amphitheatre web site or the livenation.com web site. However, the concert was announced Wednesday by both bands and is listed on 311's web site and on Slightly Stoopid's web site. (Slightly Stoopid has performed more consecutive annual concerts at Cricket as a headliner or co-headline than any other band, local or national, incidentally.)

Tickets for One Direction's SDSU show range from $29.50 to $59.50 each, plus service charges. But with Cowell involved, it comes as little surprise that these are not the only ticket options. One Directon is also offering an "Ultimate VIP Package" for $350 per person.
