Ocean Beach California has a flavor (and scent) all its own. It seems like just about every event you have in O.B. can be called uniquely "O.B." Creativity and a connection with the earth that surrounds us is just a way of life in this little surf town.
Maybe it's the natural seclusion from the rest of San Diego, or perhaps the near socialist liberalism, but it is undeniable there is a difference and that difference lies in the good natured quirkiness of most of the residents.
Come unite with the locals on Saturday March 1, 2008 from 9am to 4pm at the corner of Santa Monica and Ebers, in the People's Republic of Ocean Beach for the City's 59th Annual Kite Festival. This free event features carnival rides, kite-making and kite-flying, live music, and a parade. There's even complimentary hot dogs and popcorn for the kids. Make your own kite from 9am 'til noon and have it ready in time for the best kite contest at 1pm.
Bring your own kite or make one there, everyone is welcome to join in the fun. Unsure of your kite flying ability? No problem. Just lay back on the grass and enjoy the show. If you time it right, afterwards you can cruise down to Hodad's for a burger and a beer just before a walk out on the peer at sunset for a great ending to an amazing day.
Insider Tip: Parking is always a struggle during events in Ocean Beach. Do your part to ease congestion by car pooling, riding your bike or taking public transportation.
