Posted On : 9/24/2010 by Ryan Eisenacher

Get ready folks, the MCAS Miramar Air Show is here!

Jetting over San Diego from October 1 - 2, the highly anticipated 2010 air show will honor the 65th Anniversary of the Battle of Iwo Jima with the theme “Marines: A Tradition of Uncommon Valor.”

This year’s air show is welcoming back the Navy’s critically acclaimed Blue Angels Flight Demonstration Squadron. The Blue Angels are among the most popular aviation acts in the world and have performed for more than 463 million people since they were formed in 1946. The F/A-18 Hornets used by the “Blues” are 56-feet-long, more than 40 feet from wingtip to wingtip, weigh a whopping 56,000 pounds and can hit speeds of 1,200 miles per hour at takeoff.

In addition, the renowned Canadian Snowbirds are scheduled to make their second consecutive appearance at this year’s  show.

These elite, precision flying teams will be taking to the skies with other military and civilian aircraft, including the AV-8B Harrier, the F-16 Fighting Falcon, and the Marine Corps Air and Ground Task Force demonstration to amaze attendees with their unmatched professional flying skills. In addition, the Miramar flight line will be filled with static displays, showcasing both past and present military equipment, air show memorabilia, and plenty of refreshments to keep you cool while you enjoy the inspiring feats and daring aerial acrobatics of all the amazing performers. New to this Air Show is the exclusive Flying Aces chalet with upgraded décor, food and beverages, and the Flight of Wine chalet during the Twilight Show which offers a variety of delicious wines from the West Coast.

MCAS Air Show parking, general admission and blanket seating are free. For attendees who wish to purchase grandstand or reserved box seating, please call the ticket office at 858.577.4126 or visit miramarairshow.com.
