At your average night out to the mini-golf course, you might putt your ball through a windmill, over a moving bridge, and around some slick curves and bends. At the two-part OddBall Mini-Golf Classic, Saturday, October 23rd & Sunday, October 24th, your shots will fly through something a bit more inspiring: contemporary art.
As part of an effort to raise funds for the New Children’s Museum and increase exposure to artistic experiences, the OddBall Classic presents adults the chance to partake in a one-of-a-kind golf course, while the sounds of performers and musicians saturate the night.
Through a creative 9-hole course full of unique hazards and amusing scoring, the golfer in you will be able to explore contemporary art as well as some of the architecture the Museum boasts. Whether you’re an amateur or a pro, you’ll be golfing with ease in no time and finding new inspiration from the land you trod on.
In this unconventional approach, golfers will see art in a refreshing new light, as well as a sport that they may have once overlooked. The local talent and radio extraordinaire Chris Cantore will emcee Saturday’s adults-only evening, which will feature musical performances from DJ Saul Q, the San Diego award-winning band Rafter, and the new indie favorite Smile Now Cry Later. Don’t assume you’ll be demoted to caddie status just because golf’s not your game. The OddBall experience is complete with art-making, live entertainment, beer wine, cocktails, and hors d’oeuvres. Not to mention, you can take home new treasures from the silent-auction and experience the best of fresh San Diego eats from the local gastro truck fare.
Iron out that old argyle sweater and pull out your golf cap—guests are encouraged to done their finest golf-inspired ensembles. Prizes for best dressed will be awarded for the evening, as well as some more unique titles such as the “Most Flammable” costumes. Day two of the OddBall Classic is geared for a kids and family day, but all are invited at 11am on Sunday to reserve private access to the course, complete with breakfast and light refreshments. Packages are available for $150 and must be purchased prior to the event.
