Orfila Vineyard Hosts 2010 Grape Stomp

Posted On : 8/10/2010 by Ryan Eisenacher

As a longtime San Diego transplant and avid fanatic of all things vino, I find it abashedly appalling that I’ve yet to whet my taste buds at one of our city’s many fine wineries. From luxurious Temecula vineyards to boutique Escondido wineries, San Diego is quite literally at the disposal of our sipping and savoring pleasure.

If you've been dying to indulge in the ambrosial mysteries of tasting rooms and behind-the-scenes tours, the time has come to experience one of San Diego's most tantalizing events of the summer.

Nestled in the picturesque San Pasqual Valley, Orfila Vineyards & Winery has been regarded as one of San Diego’s ultra-premium boutique wineries. Situated within a 10,000-acre agricultural preserve, the alluring 70-acre estate grows 40 acres of premium wine grapes that contrive a palatable assortment of Syrahs, Merlots, Chardonnays, Sangioveses and Rieslings.

While Orfila may very well be a constituent of the smallest American Viticulture Area in California, don't be so quick to judge a book by its cover. Since its inception in 1994, Orfila Vineyards has been the recipient of more than 1,300 medals in major national and international competitions – a testament to the complexity, grace and opulence of its exquisite wines. And now it's your turn to taste the fun!

This is event is a rare opportunity for both locals and visitors to sample new wines from a region experiencing an exciting renaissance of an old tradition – locally grown, quality hand-crafted wine and food.

Insider Tip: Before you get overly excited about the prospect of fancy foot-stompin' fun, we'd like to kindly forewarn you of the consequences of cheating. While participating in a grape-stomping contest, a reporter now internationally known as "The Grape Lady", had to learn the hard way. Don't let this happen to you...
