The San Diego Padres are hotter than ever, and so is this season’s action-packed line-up at PETCO Park.
Coming up next, our Padres take on the Phillies this Saturday, August 28, the Rockies on September 4 and the Dodgers on September 9 followed by the Cubs on September 30. To spice up your ball park experience, the Padres are hosting the ultimate Oktoberfest party on September 24 with all of the best San Diego breweries.
And news break: Padres announced the new Western Metal Concert Series presented by Ashford University featuring Jewel, Colbie Caillat, John Legend and Macy Gray in November! Although summer is coming to a close, the fun is just getting started at PETCO Park!
As we devoted fans prepare to cheer our Padres on through the playoff run, we took some time to catch up with Padres Catcher #4 Nick Hundley. From what he loves most about playing at PETCO Park to his favorite downtown breakfast spot and La Jolla beaches, and his game-time strategy for the rest of the season, get to know Nick Hundley in this week's San Diego Padres Player Spotlight on DiscoverSD.com.
DiscoverSD: What do you love most about playing at home at PETCO Park?
Nick Hundley: It’s really just the newness – it’s so beautiful, they did it the right way. The atmosphere is awesome. The club house is so great, with TVs everywhere and a huge weight room with an awesome sound system. And someone’s always cooking up food in the cafeteria! Of course I also like the 75 degree weather every day. The other week we had a day game in Atlanta …
DSD: How long have you lived in San Diego? How do you like it so far?
NH: I’ve been in San Diego for about a year and a half now and I love it. I live downtown and it’s great to be able to walk to the park and walk around after the games with all the fans in the street. Some of my favorite spots are Café 222 for breakfast – I always get the pumpkin waffles. I also like walking over to The FleetWood after games – it’s my favorite low-key spot. I’m not a loud club kind of guy. When I’m not downtown I head to Coronado for lunch with my wife, or to La Jolla Shores to hang out on the beach and get some sun – you can’t beat that.
DSD: What is your strategy for the rest of the season?
NH: I’m really looking forward to the playoff run – we have to make something happen with every play in every game. Every game is so important so we’re going to go out and do what we’ve done all season. It’s really pretty simple. We’re going to leave it all out on the field.
DSD: What message do you want to send to your San Diego fans?
NH: I just want to say thank you for all the support - whether you believed in us from the beginning or just recently hopped on the bandwagon.
DSD: How do you feel about San Diego fans as compared to other cities?
NH: When we play certain teams the park gets pretty packed. But it’s not packed for every game. Compared to other teams, that isn’t very common. We’re playing some great baseball right now and I’d love to see fans come out strong for every single game.
