Tucked away in ritzy Rancho Santa Fe is the San Diego Polo Club. For a wide array of prices, spectators can enjoy the King of Sports now through July 19 and August 16 to October 4, 2009.
On 60 acres, the Polo Club features an exercise track, riding trails, a clubhouse, a polo training school, and an outdoor lighted arena. Besides an abundance of land, the San Diego Polo Club (once known as the Rancho Santa Fe Polo club) produces parties all season.
Patrons who purchase “Player’s Club” tickets ($10/adult and children free) can meet fellow enthusiasts and the polo players, and are invited to the 7th Chukkers Party after the match. Lasting for 3 hours after the conclusion of the game, Player’s Club spectators can rub elbows with players and relax while drinking cocktails and listening to music.
Besides the weekly and non-exclusive 7th Chukkers Party, the Polo Club hosts several members-only parties. Several days a month, members of the club are invited to enjoy a themed party.
While the well-dressed viewers can enjoy their cocktail every Sunday and take in a polo match or two, guests are welcomed by the club at the conclusion of the each day of competition to try a “4-wheeled” version of the game: Golf Cart Polo. Driven by the polo players, guests sit in the passenger seat of their golf cart and use the same field and officials for their own game.
Golf Cart Polo is only one among several services that the San Diego Polo Club provides to patrons. Groups can enjoy a private exhibition match which includes a “Meet and Greet” with the polo players and the traditional Divot Stomp at half time. Individuals can also take part in a free first lesson and begin the journey to becoming an amateur polo player.
Throughout the season, Polo Club hosts several prestigious competitions including the Rossmore Cup, and offers amateur leagues at different skill levels which include a special “Margarita League” in the spring and “Founders” in the fall.
