There’s been a movement storming through major show-stopping cities for the past few years. Have you sensed it? It’s a creative fusion of fashion, art, and music, a sensory overload trailblazing across the country to fill us with the three staples we need to be reinspired and continue in the creation process. Project Ethos has been sending models down runways, setting up bands on stages, and giving local artists a space to shine in a handful of hot cities, including our own trend-setting San Diego.
Project Ethos has already paid us a few visits at FLUXX, but now they’re indulging in a more indie-hipster spin for their series, holding the next event on September 15th at the House of Blues. Starting at 8pm, guests can intake a full display of runway fashion and local music sensations, all with the surrounding environment filled with art, art, and more art. It’s a creative haven that dismisses the daily drill that runs us dry of imagination; instead Project Ethos aims to reinvigorate the senses and remind our human spirit of artistic inclinations.
Project Runway Meets Project Ethos: Our own local version of the cut-throat fashion design competition takes place with five hand-picked student designers from The Art Institute of San Diego for the second Flavor Fashionista Challenge of the year. With just $200 to buy fabrics and materials, the students must create a one-of-a-kind “flavor-inspired” garment fit for the runway. Audience-involvement is key here, as they vote via text message during the event and display on screens and projectors for all to see. The deserving winner with the highest number of votes will take home a prize valued at $3,000 to help further their career in the industry. The stakes are high as the designer’s peers, yourself included, as well as media and celebrities attending the event cast crucial votes.
Rock-N-Roll: During the first three Project Ethos events in San Diego, we shook our tailfeathers to sounds from rap and electro acts. This year, as according to the grungy setting inside the House of Blues, audiences will get to mellow out to the sounds of three up-and-coming San Diego bands. These indie rock bands will perform and compete against one another while a private panel of judges decides who will be asked to play a set at LA Fashion Week Spring 2012. In the past events, the Project Ethos stage has featured such acts as Colbie Caillat, One Republic, Meiko, and Bruno Mars.
Visual Stimulation: The Project Ethos events are never without artistic creations and handiwork to stimulate the senses. At this year’s showcase, 7 local visual artists will have work on display, as well as on sale. For more wearable creations, a fashion accessories collection will also be showcased from “Dazzlme by Camille.” Get to know the masterminds during the private meet and greet, taking place from 8-9pm for the designers, artists and musicians to network with local industry and buyers before the show.
The doors swing open at 8pm with a red carpet, and the concert begins at 8:15pm. Style smart with the fashion show at 10pm, and uncover the art exhibition and vendors throughout the night. Tickets for the upcoming Project Ethos at House of Blues go on sale August 15th. Early birds can score a general admission ticket for $15 and a VIP ticket for $40. All buyer and media inquiries can be sent to email@example.com. The event is sponsored by Vitaminwater zero, Cardiwrap by Kymaro, Frederick's of Hollywood SWIM, DiscoverSD.com, and Diesel Salon.
