Published : 4/7/2009 by DiscoverSD

Five Boutique Ramona Wineries will make their San Diego debut on April 22nd at a Wine Tasting Event at the Hilton Garden Inn Del Mar.

This is event is a rare opportunity for San Diegans to sample new wines from a region experiencing an exciting renaissance of an old tradition – locally grown, quality hand-crafted wine and food. Among the wineries to feature estate grown, produced and bottled wines are The Scaredy Cat Ranch, Chuparosa Vineyards, Edwards Vineyard and Cellars, Kohill Winery, and Woof ‘n Rose Winery.

Head to the Hilton Garden Inn on April 22nd at 6:30pm for the Ramona Wineries Wine Tasting Event. This unique opportunity is an amazing deal at $15 per person.

Insider Preview…

The Cactus Star Vineyard at The Scaredy Cat Ranch will feature the 2007 Estate Cabernet Sauvignon. The Cabernet Sauvignon has rich aromas of cassis and cedar with flavors of vanilla, dark chocolate, berries with a hint of cinnamon. The Tempranillo is a full-bodied red wine with a subtle aroma of berries.

The Chuparosa (Spanish for “humming bird”) Vineyards, named for the strong, confident, yet flirtatious nature of the humming bird, will present a 2006 Zinfandel. The wine was aged in Appalachian oak barrels to compliment the natural spicy nature of Zinfandel grapes and bottled in August 2008.

The Edwards Vineyards and Cellars will introduce the 2004 Petite Sirah, which carries flavors of dark cherry, berry fruit, herb, dill and plenty of oak with firm tannins on the finish. Additionally, the Edwards Vineyards and Cellars will bring the 2004 Syrah. This grape exhibits earthy granite and mineral, with wonderful underlying notes of dark berry fruit with a soft oak finish.

The Kohill Vineyard and Winery will feature the 2007 Estate Grown Sauvignon Blanc a well balanced medium bouquet with citrus notes and Aurora's Red, a smooth blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Sangiovese.

The Woof 'n Rose Winery will highlight the 2007 Estate Cabernet Franc. This wine has vanilla with cherries in the nose, and medium tannins go all the way to finish in the palate.

The Ramona Valley Wines are difficult to find and taste, as many of the wines have not been released commercially. Prior to the Prohibition, the Ramona Valley had more premium acreage than both Napa and Sonoma Counties. Its soil is similar to that of the Rhone area of France, and the climate is similar to the Mediterranean areas of Spain and Italy. These unique characteristics produce a wide breath of vibrant wines with tremendous character that tend to be balanced and age worthy.
