A quick scan through Rihanna’s Instagram and you’ll find that the singing sensation who has sold 43 million albums worldwide and has seven Grammy Awards under her belt is also a killer style icon. She knows it, she owns it and she’s bringing her bad girl ways to Bravo’s newest competition series, “Styled to Rock.”
The fashion reality competition show will give 12 hopefuls chosen by RiRi herself the chance to become America’s next big designer, along with $100,000 cash prize, a fashion feature in “Glamour” magazine and the opportunity to be a member of Rihanna’s style team.
So what kind of designers would Rihanna pick to go head-to-head in a full-on fashion frenzy? The chosen 12 all have a vibrant, cutting-edge point of view, and local Andre Soriano is bringing his along with his fashion mantra of “Peace, love, glamour and fashion." Born in the Philippines and now a skilled couturier in San Diego, Soriano’s designs have previously been featured in Italian “Vogue.” The 42-year old will do his best to win the crown and get the celebrity exposure to launch him into the big-leagues.
This star-powered show also features top mentors to guide the contestants, including Grammy Award-winning music producer Pharell Williams, international model Erin Wasson and Rihanna’s personal stylist Mel Ottenberg. Kid Cudi, Miley Cyrus, Carley Rae Jepsen, Khloe Kardashian, Kylie Minogue, Kelly Osbourne, The Band Perry, Naya Rivera, Big Sean, Nervo and Ne-Yo will also make appearances throughout the season.
Each week, the aspiring designers will have the chance to style an outfit for the musical superstar stopping through. Expect a “Project Runway” type battle, with a little more edge and rock ‘n’ roll.
