What do you do when you’ve hit a fitness plateau and the mere thought of exercise has you yawning? You run. You run like you’re at your own personal concert and thousands of fans are screaming your name. You run like a rock star.
This year, San Diegans get their chance to live out the dream at the 16th annual Rock 'n’ Roll Marathon that’s sprinting through town on Sunday, June 2. Throughout the 26.2 mile course, live music from local bands will rev up the crowds and enthusiastic cheer squads will keep the energy soaring. Just past the finish line, a massive post-marathon concert will end the race with a bang.
The big announcement of the year is that for the first time in its history, the race will end at Petco Park. This is the fifth finish line in the history of the original Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon, which has included the Naval Training Center, Marine Corps Recruit Depot and SeaWorld as previous final stops. Now at Petco Park, the Finish Line Festival will be rocking out all day for runners, spectators and families to enjoy. Participants will be just steps away from the dining, entertainment and hospitality of downtown San Diego – perfect for out-of-towners visiting just for the race!
If you’re not quite up for a 26.2 mile run, the Rock n’ Roll race also offers a 13.1 mile half-marathon option, as well as kid-friendly versions for the little ones. The full course details will be announced next month, but eager participants can rest assured that it will be flat, festive and full of fun. As always, the race helps a greater cause. The 16th Annual Rock 'n’ Roll San Diego Marathon benefits the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
