Rotaract Hosts Mingle at Mingei to Benefit Children and the Arts

The Rotaract Club of Downtown San Diego presents Mingle at Mingei, an interactive fundraising event in celebration of spirits and the arts, with all proceeds benefiting Mingei International Museum's Community Sunday program for local children.

On Saturday, November 1, 2008 from 7-10pm, a fun group of San Diego young professionals will channel socialization into a philanthropic cause as they mingle about the Mingei Museum at Balboa Park and enjoy wine, beer, food tasting, raffle prizes, a silent auction, and view two international art exhibits.

On display will be Forms in Wooden Fiber Exhibit, featuring the work of six distinguished Southern Californian wood artists and California Fibers (pictured), as well as India Adorned Exhibit, a prized exhibit that reveals the colorful diversity of Indian creative expression, presenting an evocative collection of works used in the daily routine of a typical Indian family.

All proceeds from Mingle at Mingei tickets, raffles and auctions will benefit the museum's Community Sunday program. This program aims to benefit underprivileged children and families of San Diego by bringing them to the museum at a discounted rate and to hold special events for children to get more involved with art.

Jessica Harris, president of the Rotaract Club of Downtown San Diego said, "Attendees of this event will be able to enjoy a sophisticated evening of culture and socialization all while benefiting an outstanding museum. This is an excellent opportunity to directly give back to our community."

The Rotaract Club of Downtown San Diego is a nonprofit organization made of a group of young professionals committed to personal, professional and community service. This will be the first Mingle at Mingei hosted by the Rotaract Club of Downtown San Diego.

Director of Public Relations for Mingei International Museum, Martha Ehringer said, "We are delighted that the Rotaract Club of Downtown San Diego is supporting our current initiative. It's refreshing to see a generation of young leaders in our city work together to host an innovative social event to raise money, awareness, and resources for this program."

The Mingei International Museum honors the art of the people, and opens a window on traditional cultures of the great world, revealing similarities and distinctions of individuals and cultures, inspiring people to express their own innate creativity. Mingei International's museums in Balboa Park and in Downtown Escondido collect, conserve and exhibit arts of daily use - by craftsmen of ancient times, from cultures of past and present and by historical and contemporary designers. Join Mingle at Mingei from 7-10pm on Saturday, November 1, 2008 at the Mingei International Museum in Balboa Park. Tickets are $35 and available now by visiting, sandiegorotaract.org/mingle. Tickets will be $45 at the door on the day of the event.
