Founded as the extension of San Diego's largest and best-known art festival, ArtWalk, the 3rd annual ArtWalk on the Bay 2008 will be held the weekend of September 13th and 14th at the Embarcadero Marina Park North in Downtown (behind Seaport Village).
This free, open-aired event gathers more than 100 artists to showcase their original works of art including painting, photography, sculpture, jewelry, glass-art and more, and features live entertainment from some of San Diego's most talented performers. "Artes de Mexico," a special section of ArtWalk on the Bay (AOTB) will feature 12 artists from Mexico, highlighting famed and up-and-coming artists from our southern amigos.
To accommodate and inspire younger attendees, AOTB will once again feature KidsWalk, a section offering hands-on educational art activities for children and their families. This year's activities will include Rare Hare's art project using recycled materials, Museum of Making Music's drum circle, and a Walk a Mile in My Shoes activity where kids can decorate shoes to be sent to children in Mexico.
ArtWalk on the Bay is a juried event. All artists are required to supply images of art work along with their registration form and payment, and artist selection is based upon specific criteria by AOTB judges. Registration for AOTB 2008 is currently open and continues until all event-supplied tents/booth spaces are sold.
AOTB needs volunteers! All volunteers will receive a complimentary ArtWalk on the Bay 2008 t-shirt, refreshments and the opportunity to buy merchandise at a reduced price. More than 30,000 attendees are expected to attend AOTB this year, so arrive early (event hours are 10am-5pm). Visitors can reach the venue on the MTS Trolley, and there are several parking lots surrounding this area. There is also a free shuttle to AOTB from the County Administration Lot.
