San Diego Ballet Presents "Romance"

As love sweeps us off our feet through the month of February, our dating calendar fills up with opportunities to woo our sweethearts. When not sharing desserts at San Diego’s top restaurants for Valentine’s Day, romance your date with a trip to the ballet.

The San Diego Ballet presents three intimate nights of the ballet “Romance,” choreographed and directed by Javier Velasco. From February 10-12th, the Lyceum Theatre in Horton Plaza will host guests seeking to share affection amidst the ballet’s whimsical spirit.

The San Diego Ballet is not new to the romantic ballet themes, either. They’ve been proudly embarking in Shakespeare’s classics throughout the past two decades, while also mixing in romantic waltzes and country music ballads in between. “Romance” pulls from each of these past seasons in one performance of deep passion.

The production is set to include pieces accompanied by Nat King Cole and Patsy Cline, as well as specialty Latin pieces. The second half of the evening on Feb. 10th and 11th will feature the remounting of the popular “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.” On Feb. 12th, true romantics can see the special full-length version of “Romeo et Juliet.”

Artistic visionary Javier Velasco has grown the San Diego Ballet immensely, and is hailed as one of the top people to watch in the San Diego arts scene.

Tickets to “Romance” can be purchased online at a standard price of $35 or premier for $45. For more information, visit sandiegoballet.org.
