San Diego City of Hope Del Mar Wine and Food Festival

Published : 7/9/2008 by Angella d’Avignon

In an effort to fundraise for wellness and awareness, the San Diego City of Hope chapter is hosting the annual Wine and Food Festival at the Del Mar Plaza on Sunday, July 13 from 4 to 7pm.

Attendees will enjoy a scenic Sunday afternoon in well-manicured Del Mar setting, enjoying select fine wines from regional vineyards and eats from the area's top restaurants. Also, a silent auction will be held, with all profits to benefit the City of Hope quest to prevent and defeat disease nation-wide.

"There is no profit in curing the body if in the process we destroy the soul." These words adorn the gateway to the western region office of City of Hope in San Diego. Behind this gate lies one of the nation's most philanthropic and effective organizations. City of Hope is a leading center for research and treatment for cancer, diabetes, and other life threatening diseases, bringing hope to thousands of people across the nation.

The San Diego City of Hope office is responsible for fundraising and development throughout our county, and encourages interested parties to get involved by participating in events, like the Del Mar Food and Wine Festival, or by volunteering.

The vision for City of Hope as a whole began in 1913, when garment workers and manufacturers in downtown Los Angeles drew funds together to buy the land to build a Medical Center. This building now stands as a catalyst for cures, advancing ideas into discoveries and treatments almost 100 years later. City of Hope is supported by the fundraising and generosity the San Diego office hopes to cultivate.

We are one portion of the enormous cause City of Hope has created, and this Sunday's Food and Wine Festival at the Del Mar Plaza is an integral part of the process.

Tickets are $55, and to order them, email sedell@coh.org, or call City of Hope at 858.452.6846. For more information on City of Hope, and to learn how you can get involved, visit cityofhope.com/sandiego.
