The bay, the beaches, the mountains and shimmering deserts – we all know San Diego’s beautiful. But what about its southerly neighbor, Chula Vista? Parts of it could use some work, and that’s why San Diego volunteers are encouraged to head south on Saturday, October 6th, for the annual Beautify Chula Vista Day.
From 8am to noon, philanthropists will meet at Chula Vista’s Harborside park to give the entire region an extreme makeover. The event not only includes picking up trash, but also storm drain stenciling, graffiti removal, and tree planting. Volunteers are rewarded for their hard work (above and beyond that warm fuzzy feeling) with free commemorative t-shirts, complimentary breakfast and lunch, and a raffle with fun prizes.
According to I Love a Clean San Diego, approximately 600 San Diego County volunteers attended the event last year, picking up over 2,000 pounds of debris, painting out graffiti on fences and street signs, stenciling 83 storm drains, and planting over 30 trees.
Volunteers must pre-register for the October 6th event on the Beautify Chula Vista Day website.
