The David Alan Collection introduces its new and unique exhibit “Shipwrecked” with a release party that will leave patrons feeling anything but marooned.
The exhibit will feature shipwreck artifacts and pieces crafted by folk artist Lindu of Yogyakarta, Java, Indonesia.
The shipwreck artifacts include seashell encrusted swords and weapons, mercury storage jars from the 12th century, and an impressively intact eight foot long, 250-year-old anchor and chain. The delicate artifacts date back as far as the 10th century and were chosen solely by Collection owner David Bardwick.
Lindu’s work, the highlight of the exhibit, is personal to Bardwick. The two met in Java four years ago and Bardwick, ever since, has pleaded with Lindu to have an exhibition in the United States. Bardwick sensed that his appreciation for Lindu’s work would be replicated by other San Diego art enthusiasts; however, Lindu refused for years.
Just last January, Bardwick was pleasantly surprised to find that Lindu had an entire exhibition completed, and felt ready to share it with the world.
Opening Party: The release party, set to dock on July 30th, offers live music and complimentary appetizers, desserts, wine, liquor and beer. No reservations are needed and the event is free.
The San Diego “Shipwrecked” exhibit will shine in the 15,000 sq.-ft. showroom from July 30 to August 30, 2009. For more information, please visit thedavidalancollection.com.
