John August Swanson, the renowned religious themed artist whose work has been on display at The Gallery at Bazaar del Mundo for over 30 years, introduces “The Last Supper” – his newest piece to join the exhibit in Old Town.
Swanson is known for his limited edition serigraphs, lithographs and etchings that reflect a devotion to his inner religious life and the surrounding social and urban experience. His unique style is influenced by Islamic and Medieval miniatures, Russian iconography, the tradition of Mexican muralists, and the color of Latin American folk. Swanson’s praised work is represented in museums and galleries around the world, including Tate Gallery and the Albert and Victorian Museum in London, the Art Institute of Chicago, the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History, and our own Bazaar del Mundo Shops.
The Gallery at Bazaar del Mundo is hosting a free two-day event to welcome Swanson’s new piece – “The Last Supper” – on Friday, June 19 from 3-9pm and Saturday, June 20 from 10am-5pm. The Gallery is located at 4133 Taylor Street in Old Town. For info, call 619.296.3161 or visit bazaardelmundo.com.
