For the past four years, the downtown San Diego Lyceum Theatre Gallery has turned its walls into a space for breathtaking international art. Hosting a truly excellent presentation of photographic art for the fourth time, the Lyceum Theatre Gallery now brings us The Art of Photography Show.
Curated and produced by Steven Churchill for the past 4 years, the show runs until May 23rd, keeping gallery doors open Monday through Friday from 10am to 5pm and Saturday through Sunday from 12pm to 5pm. This exhibit has filled up every year since its inception and projects 20,000 visitors this year.
The Art of Photography Show was created in 2004 to give exposure to otherwise unknown, but talented photographers. A variety of images will hang on the walls of the gallery for a dazzling four weeks, ranging from photos shot on film to digitally shot photos, unaltered shots, mixed media, montages, and photograms.
The art show process is simple: thousands of artists were encouraged to submit work, which was then organized and juried with the best works ranking first through fourth place. One of the key aims of this sundry exhibit is to sell the work, creating maximum media attention for the featured artists.
Carol McCusker, Curator of Photography at the Museum of Photographic Arts, is this year's judge, and has chosen 102 incredible works of art out of thousands of submissions from all over the world. Color drenched pictures from Sudan, Sri Lanka, Fiji, Iraq, and Mexico fill the Lyceum's two-level space, providing San Diego's art scene with a global perspective.
The Lyceum Theatre Gallery is located at Horton Plaza in the historic Gaslamp Quarter of downtown San Diego. Park at the Horton Plaza parking garage and receive a four hour validation. For more information, visit artofphotographyshow.com.
