The Gaslamp Art Showcase Paints Downtown

Published : 3/11/2008 by Craig Slike

San Diego has picked up a charming new cultural habit I am fully embracing.

Instead of keeping art locked up in dry stuffy museums, the Gaslamp is bringing it out to the light of day to complement our already stunning surroundings, and is topping the whole thing off with the perfect final touch: booze.

On March 29th The Gaslamp Art Showcase takes over the streets of Downtown San Diego, and extends into many of the hottest venues in town. This Juried multi-stop art show features over 40 talented San Diego artists in diverse mediums such as paintings, drawings, sculpture, and mixed media. Up and down Fifth Avenue, there are three main art themes Reflection, Spyglass, and Kaleidescope.

This shindig will run from noon to 7pm with an exclusive gallery and rooftop tour from 3pm to 7pm. Guests that are 21 and up can purchase a ticket good for samples of fine wines and high-end spirits at five different fine art galleries and five separate rooftops for just $10 per person. Many of the participating venues will offer food and drink specials for Art Showcase patrons. Keep an eye out for outdoor lounges on Fifth Avenue.

Participating locations include: Michael J. Wolf Gallery, Shorelines Gallery, Siamak Art Gallery, The Art of Tim Cantor, CJ Gallery, Altitude Sky Bar, Moonstone Lounge at the Hard Rock Hotel, The Ivy Hotel, Hotel Solamar, Stingaree, The Brokers Building, Exclusive Collections Gallery, Acqua al 2, Bondi Bar, Dussini Mediterranean Bistro, Gaslamp Strip Club, Red Circle, The William Heath Davis House & Gaslamp Gifts, The San Diego Repertory Theatre.
