If you’re looking for a good (if somewhat crazy) time, let me tell you about a little something called the Gorilla Challenge Race. Picture this: hundreds of people, most of them dressed up in kooky costumes, meet at a specific location to pick up a set of clues and embark on a big adventure. Throughout the race, contestants will have to perform fun (and sometimes gross) challenges. Once you’ve completed 10 of the 12 challenges, race back, grab a gorilla staff member and claim your prize.
The Gorilla Challenge Race has been sweeping the country, from Chicago to Los Angeles, and now the race will take place in America’s Finest City this weekend. The San Diego Gorilla Challenge is going down on Saturday, November 19th. The start-up meeting point will be the Hard Rock Café, located at 801 4th Avenue. Participants are asked to arrive around 9:30am, as the race will kick off right at 11am. Expect to finish around 2pm, with live entertainment, food and drinks taking place after the event.
Even if you don’t end up winning one of the main cash prizes (ranging from $300 to $100), there are loads of mini-prizes along the way that include Amazon gift cards and gift certificates to local restaurants and stores. Also, the Gorilla Challenge supports local charities and each event is designed to help raise fare for food banks. So, all participants end up helping a worthy cause while having tons of fun.
This weekend, the race benefits San Diego Youth Services, a non-profit working towards improving the lives of San Diego youth and aiding family situations. For those who would like to help, $10 gift cards and socks will be accepted on the day of the event. Sdyouthservices.org offers more information on the non-profit. In addition, a cash prize will go to the person who brings the most non-perishable items to donate to the San Diego Food Bank.
