The Little Italy Precious Festa & Corso Degli Artisti

Published : 10/10/2007 by Craig Slike

Watch where you're stepping in Little Italy this weekend - the street will literally be covered with art. On Saturday and Sunday, October 13th to 14th from 10am to 6pm, La Poca Italia will be hosting two events simultaneously. The Little Italy Precious Festa (named after the cheese sponsor) and the Corso Degli Artisi (Course of the Artist) will draw about 95,000 people this year.

The Little Italy Precious Festa

The 13th annual Precious Festa in Little Italy celebrates all the things we love most about Italy.

Italian Food: All the local restaurants will be open and overflowing. Booths will also be lining the streets offering up pasta, pizza, pastries and giant calamari. A beer and wine garden will also be available to get your bevanda on.

Italian Music: Four stages of music all weekend feature musicians like Antonia Bennett, Roman Holiday, and Nova Menco. San Diego's favorite swinger David Patrone also performs - and what would an Italian festival be without Gilbert Gauthier impersonating old blues himself, Frank Sinatra?

Italian Motorsports: From Alfa Romero to Vespa, you can be sure the Little Italy Precious Festa will be showing off some sweet rides.

Italian Sports: Stickball. Over ten stickball team call San Diego home. The top four on the west coast will be competing both days on India Street for the Festa Stickball Championship.

The Little Italy Corso Degli Artisi

The Corso Degli Artisi in Little Italy features 35 street artists who will be chalk painting on the asphalt. You can watch their works of art come to life in front of your very eyes. Most of these are rather impressive, especially considering they will be washed away in a couple days. Kids are welcomed to join in too. For a $10 charge you can get your own two-foot square patch in the middle of the street, as well as a mat and a box of chalks to paint with.

The Trolley is going to be your best bet for getting to Little Italy headache-free. Hit up the Blue Line and get off at the Little Italy/Cedar stop. The Little Italy events are just a few blocks east from there.

Festa!

That's this weekend? I totally forgot! Thanks guys, it's one of my favorite events of the year!
