The San Diego Bay Food and Wine Festival 2007

Published : 10/30/2007 by Kirsten Noelle Hubbard

Whether you’re in it to wine or dine, you’ll surely agree the scope of the annual San Diego Bay Food & Wine Festival is staggering.

The San Diego wine event spans an entire week, starting with an invite-only VIP party at the W Hotel, and concluding with a brunch aboard the Hornblower in the San Diego Harbor. However, most attend the San Diego Bay Food & Wine Festival for the crescendo celebration on the 17th – otherwise known as the Grand Event.

The San Diego Bay Food & Wine Festival Grand Event is held at Embarcadero Park North, at the end of Kettner Boulevard, where dozens of tents and booths fill the park with color. Representatives hail from San Diego restaurants, wineries as near as Temecula and as far as France, food and wine magazines, and culinary academies. You’ll also find luxury auctions, live entertainment, local artists and more.

The best part: attendees each receive a wine glass, and enjoy sampling hundreds of wines from the event’s countless wineries. If you’ve ever wanted to behold San Diego’s finest wobbling with wine-love, the San Diego Bay Food & Wine Festival is the place to be.

The rest of the week features a constellation of classy events, such as Bling & Bubbly, a charity jewelry auction at the Ivy Hotel soaked in champagne; cooking classes held at the Macy's School of Cooking, and the San Diego Wine & Culinary Center, like “Become a Cheese Expert” and “Global Flavors and Spice Mixology”; and specialty Winemaker Dinners at San Diego restaurants like Firefly and Napa Valley Grille.

But the fun doesn’t end there. Every event at the San Diego Bay Food & Wine Festival will be studded with culinary stars, from local celebrities like Top Chef contestant Brian Malarkey of the Oceanaire Seafood Room, and Sam Zien – a.k.a. Sam the Cooking Guy – to national gourmet icons like David Lawrence of Boy Eats World fame.

Tickets can be purchased on the San Diego Bay Food & Wine Festival website, or by calling 1-877-808-WINE (9463) from 7am to 5pm.
