While the award-winning La Jolla Playhouse is known for introducing us to Broadway-bound theater performances, spring brings a new scene to center stage. The Second City Laugh Out Loud Tour is heading to town for a special engagement, transforming the Playhouse into an interactive comedy club March 21-24.
The Second City, an iconic comedy powerhouse based in Chicago, has been bringing us raucous laughs for over 50 years and has featured such big names as Bill Murray, Tina Fey, Stephen Colbert, Steve Carrel and Martin Short. The new generation of comics introduces funny folks Rachel Miller, Tawny Newsome, Tim Ryder, Michael Kosinski and Eileen Montelione.
The Second City promises to live up to its name with hilarious sketch comedies involving current events, distinct improvisation, audience participation and satire galore, set within the cabaret-style Sheila and Hughes Potiker Theatre on the La Jolla Playhouse campus. Patrons will enjoy the laugh-out-loud comedy in a supper club atmosphere, complete with custom banquettes, multi-level platforms and refreshments.
Ticket prices are as follows: $45 for premium lounge seating, $40 for cocktail cabaret tables and $30 for balcony seating. For more information and a full performance schedule, visit lajollaplayhouse.org
Insider Tip: The La Jolla Playhouse 2012 Gala takes place Friday, March 9 within the Potiker Theatre. The evening will feature a cocktail party, catered dinner by Chef Giuseppe Ciuffa, auctions, live entertainment by Tony Award winner Peter Gallagher and dancing under the stars. Get details here
