It's that time of year again; Del Mar Thoroughbred Racing is open, and there's plenty in store for the 2007 season. And now outfitted with a youthful Myspace page and a series of vibrant pop-culture commercials, the track in old Del Mar still proves to be fierce at 70 years old.
What's new at the Del Mar Race Track?
Del Mar says hello to a new Polytrack surface. At a whopping cost of $9 million dollars, Polytrack consists of sand, wax, fiber, and rubber. Believed to be safer for horses and riders, this is a welcome replacement to the once dirt-track, unchanged since the 1937 grand opening.

Get your fill as San Diego Microbreweries and national all-star breweries showcase their goods at the July 28th Microbrew Festival. After sampling over 50 specialty brews from 20 microbreweries, you're sure to see a new side of the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club. Sip frosty samples in the infield Pacific Pavilion beginning at 12pm at $15 for five or $3.25 for one.

Promotions are aplenty this season in Del Mar, Notable events include Legends of Beach Volleyball Tournament on July 28th, and Ladies Day on August 26, which features an irresistible combination of fashion shows, wine tasting, and mini spa treatments.
Hungry race-goers can get their morning fill at Daybreak at Del Mar, a buffet breakfast served by the on-site Clubhouse Terrace restaurant.
Del Mar also brings back the annual entertainment schedule, packed with notable names like Spongebob Squarepants and the Violent Femmes. And the fan-favorite Four-O'Clock Friday's concert series returns with an eclectic mix of artists, including Unwritten Law, Common Sense, and Angels and Airwaves. Infield concerts at the Del Mar Race Track also feature the likes of Ziggy Marley and the Cult.
