2008 Chinese New Year has officially passed, but since it is the year of the rat, I guess we can fudge a little.
On Saturday, February 16th, in Kearny Mesa, there will be a special, one-night only Chinese New Year fusion celebration unlike anything San Diego has seen: "Tickle the Moon," an art, cultural, and cuisine event with a Chinese New Year twist, is an east meets west experience.
This event will feature local performers, entertainers, and artists who will showcase their individual talents in this intermingling of cultures. Billed as "an inspired night of animated sculptures, performers, unexpected and thought-provoking twists, amidst a delicious Chinese Gourmet Feast" it actually sounds like a can't miss party if your into the whole multi-cultural thing.
An interesting feature of "Tickle the Moon" is a show from artist Fernando Apodaca who is more known for his film and video work with musicians such as Pearl Jam, Chris Cornell and Unwritten Law than for his fine art. It'll be interesting to see what he brings to the table. Other performers include Jane Lui, Karmen Guy, the Shimmy Sisters (straight off Carneval), Choy Lee Fut Lion Dancers, and other classical Asian instrumental musicians.
The main event of the evening will be a ten-course meal (count ‘em 10!), prepared Cantonese style, by award winning Jasmine Seafood Restaurant. You'll be treated to such dishes as Honey Glazed Walnut Shrimp, Baked Salted Peppered Calamari, and Cantonese Roast Duck.
"Tickle the Moon" is taking over the Jasmine Restaurant at 4609 Convoy Street starting at 7:00pm and wrapping up around 9:30pm. Tickets are $55 per person or $200 for VIP, $500 for a table of 10.
Ticket and online registration is available at the event website, ticklethemoon.com.
