Once a month there's a breezy night where North Park's quirky shops and art spaces on Ray Street open their doors to the public, welcoming in San Diego at large for a night of art and culture.
Ray Street is only one small avenue, so can you imagine what it would be like if all of North Park took a break from the usual University Avenue traffic and dedicated a day to celebrate art?
The twelfth annual North Park Festival of the Arts, taking place on Sunday, May 18 is just that: an explosion of art and community in downtown North Park on University between 30th and 32nd streets.
Come Sunday morning, tents filled with food, friendly faces, music, and of course art and entertainment will cluster on North Park's main avenue. On the Beat and Eats Stage, a colorful list of performers will play including Chubby Goodman and the Tad Bit Fats performing hip hop and spoken word, as well as funky "Slappjazz" and Posse bringing folk jazz to your ears.
Other tents will offer such eclectic entertainment as a dance stage with 300 dancers from all over San Diego, a kiddie art stage where the younger crowd can enjoy educational and multicultural art activities, the juried artist stage where local artists will display and sell their art, and the World of Latin-American Music stage.
Dedicate a day to finding out what culture means to North Park while supporting their ever-growing community. Proceeds will benefit North Park Main Street, a non-profit organization committed to the revitalization of the North Park Business Improvement District.
