University of San Diego Wine Classic

Posted On : 7/12/2010 by Ryan Eisenacher

Whether you’re in it to wine and dine, socialize or simply support an educational cause, you’ll surely agree that the annual USD Wine Classic is one of the most indulgent charity events of the summer.

From 2 - 5 pm on Sunday, July 25, join alumni and fellow wine enthusiasts at the second annual USD Wine Classic to help raise money for the school’s Alumni Endowed Scholarship Fund for students.

Taking advantage of the University’s beautiful environment, the USD Wine Classic will be held outside at the Joan B. Kroc Institute for Peace & Justice Garden of the Sea overlooking Mission Bay and the Pacific Ocean. The location boasts exotic gardens, fountains, and sculptures and when added with 25 boutique wineries, gourmet food stations and lively Spanish music, it will make for an unforgettable wine tasting experience.

The USD Wine Classic will feature more than 50 wines from USD family wineries poured straight from the owners and vintners themselves. Enjoy oaky Pinots and Syrahs from Sonoma wineries such as Scribe and Ferrari-Carano, rich Cabernets and Zinfandels from Napa Valley vineyards like Caymus and Charles Krug, and sweet Chenin Blancs from Mexico-based winery Monte Xanic.

In addition to the event, USD will also host a special pre-event tasting with wine exper, Bruce Regalia. Affectionately known as “Mr. Pinot” to industry insiders throughout the Napa, Sonoma and Anderson Valley producing areas, Bruce brings his long history in viticulture and winemaking directly to San Diego locals.

From 12:30 to 1:45 pm, the meticulous crafter of fine wines will explore the components of a single vineyard chardonnay and show guests the influences of oak (new vs. used) and cooperage, malo lactic fermentation, barrel fermented vs. stainless steel.

Guests will then have the opportunity to taste all these components directly from the unfiltered barrel and then blend the components to craft the finished Chardonnay.

Support a generous cause and take the day to enjoy a selection of revered wines from some of California and Mexico’s best wineries. To buy your tickets and learn more, visit USD Wine Classic.
