The bugle, the hats, the dresses - Opening Day at Del Mar served notice that summer is in full swing! And true to form, VAVi was there to be a part and to take it all in.

Unfortunately horse racing isn't (technically) a VAVi sport, so our handicapping skills weren't exactly up to par. But we weren't going to let a little dent in the wallet stop us from having a great time, and we headed over to the DERBY party at Prospect Bar & Lounge. It was quite a scene, with DiscoverSD and Let's Play Downtown taking pictures and filming all the action. Check out the DERBY gallery here.

Next up on the social calendar, VAVi is having the monthly RECESS happy hour on Thursday, July 31, starting at 6pm at the new BareBack Grill located on E Street, between 6th and 7th, in the Gaslamp Quarter. The buzz is already high for this RECESS, with over 20 teams planning on returning for a shot at the title in the featured Flip Cup Tournament. The Tummy Snakes emerged victorious at the last party held at the Tap Room, but they're going to have a run for their money next week as the former champions, the Sh!ts, are fired up for a much anticipated re-match. Judging from all the talk, it's not so much about the prize package (free tickets to the Stay Classy Tailgate at the last RECESS), but the bragging rights.

If you're not interested in playing, you can have just as much fun on the sidelines. As always, we've lined up great drink specials at our favorite San Diego bars, and encourage everyone to participate in the fun. When you walk in the door, you'll get a free spin of the VAVi Wheel of Fortune, where you have a shot of winning great prizes. Complimentary drink to start off the night, anyone?
