Springtime in San Diego signals the beginning of many fresh and exciting community events.
As the county gets into the buzz of the 2008 San Diego Padres season, it might be easy to overlook another staple of the spring season, the annual ArtWalk in Little Italy, held during the last week of April. Little Italy is one of San Diego's most charming and hip neighborhoods and on April 26th and 27th, its sidewalks will showcase high caliber art from over 350 local artists.
Last year over 100,000 visitors checked out the Little Italy ArtWalk, which regularly features live music, signature Italian cuisine from popular spots on India Street, and entertainment for children. This year promises more of the same, with the opportunity to become a patron of local art. As the sun shines bright in Little Italy, everything from jewelry to furniture to oil paintings and sculptures will be showcased alongside the trademark sidewalk chalk pieces. If you haven't seen these temporary masterpieces created before, this is your year to see what all the hype is about.
In addition to art, live performances from local musicians like Anna Troy, Astra Kelly, and Derren Raser will be scattered throughout India Street. Several dance groups including Eveoke Dance Theatre and the Malashock Dance School will also perform. Best of all, this event is completely free of charge enabling you and your entire clan to come out and enjoy the sun and culture of Little Italy without having to break the bank.
