West Helps East: Tattoo For Japan - Art Auction Benefit

Posted On : 5/31/2011 by Kseniya Bublikova

As one of the West Coast’s oldest tattoo parlors and a downtown San Diego icon for over 60 years, Tahiti Felix’s Master Tattoo & Museum is proud to host a tattoo art auction on June 9th to benefit the people of the East after the disastrous earthquake and tsunami that occurred in Japan earlier this year.

Gil Taimana, tattooer and owner of Master Tattoo, explains: “We felt a natural desire to help out a culture that has been so influential to our careers as tattoo artists. We are grateful and felt what a fantastic way to help out.”

West Helps East: The San Diego art auction will benefit relief efforts and raise funds for the victims of this terrible natural disaster by allowing the public to purchase some amazing original tattoo inspired artwork done by some of the best tattooers in the business. This “West Helps East” auction will take place inside Tahiti Felix’s Master Tattoo and will run from 7pm to 12 am on Thursday, June 9th.

Artwork is currently coming in from tattoo artists across the nation and as far as the UK and Argentina to contribute to this great cause. Tattoo inspired art to be auctioned off has been designed specifically for this show by participating artists such as Jack “Horimouja” Mosher, Derek Noble, Timmy Tatts. Mike Fite, Jim Sylvia, Joey Ortega, Cristian Benvenuto as well as San Diego reknown artists Fip Buchanan, Denny Besnard, Terry Ribera, Rob Benavides, Dan Pryor, Jackie Dunn Smith and many others. All the amazing artists from Master Tattoo: Gil Taimana, Zach Pensmith, Al Avila, Tats Carson, and Phil Hatchet Yau, will submit art to be auctioned off as well.

Founded by celebrated artist “Tahiti Felix” Lynch, Master Tattoo has earned an incredibly reputable name since opening its doors in 1949. Located in the heart of the historic Gaslamp Quarter, the shop location boasts over 15,000 square feet and is home to San Diego’s only tattoo museum. The museum displays artifacts, tattoo machines, and original tattoo art that can be found nowhere else.

Come check out this incredible shop, purchase one-of-a-kind artwork, and do your part to aid in the efforts to help the people of Japan. Tahiti Felix’s Master Tattoo & Museum is located at 924 5th Avenue, (between Broadway and E St. ). For further information, visit mastertattoo.com or facebook.com/tattooersforjapan.
