With the advent of sweet, sweet summertime, it’s time to simplify your drinking style and trade in those sugary, calorie-heavy comfort cocktails for refreshing frothy, ice cold local brews.
Fortunately, San Diego keeps us local beer enthusiasts satiated with 32 of the finest craft brewhouses in the region, if not the entire nation. As one of the first commercial breweries in San Diego, the original Mission Brewery first opened its doors back in 1913. However, like thousands of other breweries across the United States, Mission was forced to close its doors due to the institution of Prohibition in the early 1920s.
After 94 lengthy years, the classic San Diego brewery was reestablished in Chula Vista in 2007 to provide us thirsty suds lovin’ locals with an array of delicious handcrafted brews. Mission delivers a variety of unique brews for the discriminating beer lover, including the triple-award-winning Dusseldorf-style Mission Amber; the authentic Bavarian-style Mission Hefeweizen; the sturdy and balanced award-winning Mission IPA; the fruitful Kolsch-style Mission Blonde; and the heavily loaded Shipwrecked Double IPA.
This year, the hotshot brewmeisters at Mission decided they wanted a little change of scenery and moved their award-winning brewery to the epicenter of San Diego nightlife. Located within the historic Wonderbread Building in East Village, Mission Brewery unveiled their new 3,000 square foot tasting room on Padres Opening Day, April 5, and we thirsty locals couldn’t be more thrilled. The accommodating new digs now give beer fans direct access to Mission’s five savory draft brews at $5 a pop, plus spectacular views of the one acre brewing and bottling facility. Boasting all the essential makings of a craft beer hall, we’re certain that Mission’s impressive space is guaranteed to be a premier pre- and post-party hangout hot spot all summer long.
Grand Opening: Mission Brewery celebrates a grand opening party in East Village on Saturday, June 18, featuring their signature beers paired with food provided by Café Chloe, The Corner, Hamilton’s, Blind Lady Ale House, and the Handlery Hotel. Tickets start at $15, and will be $20 at the door. Get details here.
