The man who coined San Diego's unofficial catchphrase - "stay classy" - is headed back to town to host a night of comedy at the very classy San Diego Civic Theatre.
The Comedy Explosion, A Night of Comedy and Big Game Cats will feature a night of joke-telling and music featuring some of Ferrell's comedy buddies.
The "Anchorman" star has some pretty high profile friends. The lineup so far includes Tenacious D with both Kyle Gass and Jack Black; Ed Helms of "The Hangover" and "The Office;" Nick Kroll of "The League" and "Kroll Show;" 2012 Comedy Central Club Comic of the Year, Hannibal Buress; and comedy writer Chelsea Peretti. More acts will be announced.
The event, happening Saturday, Sept. 7, is a fundraiser for Cancer for College, a locally-based charity founded by Ferrell's college friend, Craig Pollard. Over the years, Ferrell's visited San Diego to participate in charity golf tournaments and other events to help Pollard. In 2011, Ferrell hosted a Cancer for College pub crawl that stopped at various craft beer bars like the Blind Lady Ale House.
The Comedy Explosion will feature more stand-up than beer drinking. But there's a rumor that perhaps a lion will show up. Maybe. You never know with this guy.
Tickets for the event range from $47.50 to $502.50 and go on sale at noon, June 28. (If you're a Citi cardmember, you can buy presale tickets now.
Obviously San Diego is on Ferrell's mind as he's currently filming "Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues" at locations around the country, including a scene at SeaWorld San Diego. The sequel to "Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy" opens Dec. 20.
