Confectionary Santa’s Workshop at The Grand Del Mar

Come the holiday season, San Diego hotels are oftentimes the most festive of all local businesses. While you may have grown up making traditions at the Hotel Del Coronado, this year allow yourself to spread your wings with a little trip to The Grand Del Mar. Trust me, your sweet tooth will thank you!

For the second year, The Grand Del Mar’s incredibly talented pastry team has created a magical candy rendition of Santa’s Workshop. It looks amazing, and it tastes even better! Standing 55”, spanning 73” and weighing in at 150 pounds, this decadent piece of holiday décor is comprised entirely of chocolate, icing, blown sugar and other scrumptious sweets.

Catering to kids of all ages, the resort’s pastry team depicts Santa’s Workshop just as you’ve always dreamed it to be, with 12 merry elves gearing up for the season by  hanging holiday lights and decorating mini gingerbread houses, with Santa joyously watching overhead.

However, if you happen to notice a few personalized twists, you can thank the vivid imaginations of head pastry chef Melissa Logan and her creative crew of eight talented chefs. Under Logan’s direction, each team member styled his or her own elf, and the entire creation took more than 300 hours over five weeks to design and assemble, using 20 pounds of sugar, 50 pounds of fondant, 100 pounds of chocolate and much, much more.

The Grand Del Mar’s Confectionary Santa’s Workshop sculpture will be on display in the resort’s lobby throughout the holiday season, from November 28th through December 30th. Get more details here!
