Holiday Season at Hotel del Coronado

Posted On : 11/22/2010 by Zoheb Davar

The timeless and iconic Hotel del Coronado is arguably the most popular destination resort in California for the holiday season.

In its 120+ years of existence, the Hotel del Coronado has provided lodging for some historical legends, including eleven U.S. presidents, King Edward VIII, Thomas Edison, Babe Ruth, Charles Lindbergh, Charlie Chaplin, Humphrey Bogart, Brad Pitt, and Madonna. Oh, and watch out for the resident ghost of Kate Morgan.

The Del, a history drenched gem of San Diego, transforms into a winter wonderland during the winter holidays every year. This year’s theme is “The Sweetest Season”, which incorporates decadent décor such as sugar plums, peppermint swirls, and sugar lollipops in addition to 100,000 draping lights that illuminate the resort grounds, setting the stage for a fun-filled season of holiday entertainment.

One signature feature that separates The Del from the rest is the beachfront ice skating rink. Only in San Diego can you admire a brilliant sunset over the calming ocean while gliding on an ice rink, just steps from the water’s edge. This year marks the sixth anniversary of Skating by the Sea, taking place during afternoon and evening sessions on November 24th – January 2nd. Three hours of skating are available for $20 and a portion of the proceeds will benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

For all you thespian enthusiasts, the annual production of An American Christmas, set in the first decade of the 20th century and preformed by the award winning Lamb’s Players Theatre, will run at The Del from December 12th – 26th (excluding the 25th). For tickets and more information, please visit lambsplayers.org

On December 1st from 4pm – 7pm, bring the whole family to visit Santa and his North Pole entourage during the Holiday Festival. Santa’s Village will be up and running with games and prizes for children of all ages. Bring on the seaside hot cocoa and fireworks!

‘Tis the season to be jolly, Spa La La La La. Truly immerse yourself in the holiday spirit at The Spa at The Del, fully equipped with steam rooms, Jacuzzis, and Feng Shui hair, nails, and make-up services. Even better, take care of holiday shopping while visiting, as The Del offers a plethora of potential gifts for loved ones: fine jewelry, fun toys, apparel, home décor, bath and body, sweets and treats, and holiday keepsakes.
