A staple in the downtown hospitality scene announced a major change this week. The space formerly known as the Se Hotel is now Palomar San Diego, a Kimpton Hotels and Restaurants property.
Palomar offers the same high-end hotel accommodations and amenities we've enjoyed over the years, including 183 guestrooms, 17 skyline suites and 20 luxury flats adorned in sleek contemporary design. But as we know, the allure of this hotel extends far beyond the bedroom. Palomar showcases a luxurious rooftop lounge and infinity-edged pool, a posh full-service spa, and over 20,000 square feet of event space.
What will make Palomar a new hotel, however, is the initative to support local arts and cultural organizations. Art in Motion is the new motif, and the hotel will act as an ever-changing gallery of visual and performing art, fashion, and dance through strategic partnerships with local leaders, such as the Museum of Contemporary Art, San Diego Opera, San Diego Symphony, House of Blues, and independent galleries. In addition to rotating art installations, guests will be encouraged to experience the local arts scene first hand. For example, there will be custom room packages featuring tickets to the nearby Museum of Contemporary Art.
With the Kimpton name also comes elevated hospitality standards and lifestyle-inspired programs. Palomar is said to offer wellness services, a hosted evening wine hour, pet friendly amenities, and free WiFi for InTouch members.
Palomar also introduces revamped hotel dining to the public this fall. Saltbox is a New American gastro-lounge under the culinary direction of Executive Chef Simon Dolinky that opened doors on September 23.
