Just hours before the California Coastal Commission's November meeting, an item that would facilitate the procession of a long awaited San Diego Westin Hotel project on the Oceanside Harbor, was omitted from the commission's agenda.
Scheduled to open second quarter of 2010, the Westin will be an oceanfront hotel consisting of 289 rooms and a long list of other amenities. This $187 million project has been developed and on its way to becoming a reality thanks to the prestigious S.D. Malkin Properties based in San Diego.
The project, designed to be located right on the water, will consist of not only a hotel, but also 48 time-share condominiums. The California Coastal Commission has agreed to postpone the measure regarding an amendment to Oceanside's Local Coastal Plan needed to be approved prior to the commencement of the project.
A commission meeting is scheduled for December in San Francisco, and supporters are rallying for the projects appearance on the agenda at that time. It is unknown if the item will appear on the agenda for the commission anytime soon. The next meeting in San Diego is not until February of 2008.
Several permits for the project have already been approved. Additionally, S.D. Malkin has made the rendering for the project available for the view of the Coastal Commission. Though the building of the hotel is able to move forward without the approval of the Coastal Commission, their approval iscnecessary for the creation of time-share properties.
