In an effort to promote local interest in learning about San Diego Bay, The Port of San Diego is offering free two-hour harbor cruises.
These cruises will help you become familiar with San Diego Port operations,
learn about the San Diego environment (including our place in it) and obtain basic
knowledge on how San Diegans work and recreate along the waterfront.
A Few San Diego
Bay Facts:
- The San Diego Bay is 12 miles long, and between one and three miles wide.
- The Star of India, constructed in
1863, is the oldest active ship in the world.
- In
2006, around 375,000 cars and trucks were imported into the Port of San Diego’s
Marine Terminal in National City.
They anticipate over half a million by 2008.
- The USS Midway at the San Diego Harbor serves as the largest
aircraft carrier museum in the world.
Don’t miss out on this opportunity to learn just how vital
our Port is to San Diego,
and how life along the waterfront affects all of our lives. The tours will be
available Friday. October 19, from 9:30 to 11:30am, and Thursday, October 25, from
3:30 to 5:30 pm
