Published : 10/5/2007 by Craig Slike

In an effort to promote local interest in learning about San Diego Bay, The Port of San Diego is offering free two-hour harbor cruises. These cruises will help you become familiar with San Diego Port operations, learn about the San Diego environment (including our place in it) and obtain basic knowledge on how San Diegans work and recreate along the waterfront.

A Few San Diego Bay Facts:

  • The San Diego Bay is 12 miles long, and between one and three miles wide.

  • The Star of India, constructed in 1863, is the oldest active ship in the world.

  • In 2006, around 375,000 cars and trucks were imported into the Port of San Diego’s Marine Terminal in National City. They anticipate over half a million by 2008.

  • The USS Midway at the San Diego Harbor serves as the largest aircraft carrier museum in the world.

Don’t miss out on this opportunity to learn just how vital our Port is to San Diego, and how life along the waterfront affects all of our lives. The tours will be available Friday. October 19, from 9:30 to 11:30am, and Thursday, October 25, from 3:30 to 5:30 pm

Reservations are recommended, and are taken on a first come, first serve basis. Space and times are limited. This event is be 18+. For more information call 619.400.4744 or visit www.portofsandiego.org.
