Pamper Your Pupils at Point Loma’s Cabrillo National Monument

Published : 8/17/2006 by admin admin

Look outside. It’s a beautiful day for a picnic, isn’t it? Raid the fridge, fix some sandwiches, grab a blanket, and head out to Cabrillo National Monument in Point Loma, home of the most dramatic bay and harbor view in all of San Diego. Established in 1913, the monument commemorates Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo's voyage of discovery. The Pacific Ocean, the Cuyamaca mountains, and the supine hump of Mexico can all be seen from the scenic national park. What a way to work up an appetite!

Often, pods of Pacific Gray Whales pass through the waters in the winter, to the joy of sea-loving witnesses. Visitors also enjoy hiking through the lively tide pools that develop nearby at low tide, filled with anemones, starfish, barnacles, crabs, and many more elusive creatures. Ranger walks are frequent, and a slide program is shown daily at the park visitor center.

memories

i used to go to to cabrillo with my dad when i was a kid. i'd run around the statue with my sister. those were the days. today we still go, but my sister and i don't really run around the statue anymore. instead we find somewhere to sit and enjoy the weather and the views. if you haven't been to cabrillo, you should consider going
