Listen up San Diego,
the height of the 2007
wildfire tragedy is upon us, over 300,000 people have evacuated, over 1,000 homes are gone, and it’s time to take action. As you well
know, most San Diego
schools and workplaces are canceled tomorrow, so please keep fire victims in your
thoughts, continue to watch the news, pay attention to the wind patterns, and come
volunteer with us.
There are plenty of people bringing water and food to the 8-10,000 San Diego residents that
are currently displaced at Qualcomm Stadium, but there are other requests and demands
that still require attention. Besides the need for shade - tents, canopies,
umbrellas - there are many children at Qualcomm that are quite scared and
uncertain. This is where we come in.
At 1pm tomorrow, October 23, 2007, we will arrive at
Qualcomm Stadium to distribute playful distractions, such as coloring books,
crayons, stuffed animals, new or used board games, etc., and popsicles to the hundreds of San Diego children in
need. If you can take an hour out of your day to come and help, we would
really appreciate it.
If you have anything to offer, or you need more information,
please email DiscoverSD Editor, Kirsten Hubbard, at khubbard (at)
DiscoverSD (dot) com, and we'll get you in touch with the right people.
Note: Qualcomm has requested no more food donations Monday, October 22, 2007. However, they do foresee a need for new food and supples beginning tomorrow, Tuesday, October 23, 2007.
