Hard Rock Flash Back…

The Grand Opening of Club 207 and Float took downtown party-goers by storm during the exclusive weekend-long event April 3 –4, 2009. Among the Grand Opening’s celebrity guests and performers were Scott Weiland, Ludacris, Lil Jon, Jonathan Davis, DJ AM, and San Diego’s favorite DJs Scooter and Scotty Boy. Following that celeb-studded Grand Opening weekend, we locals knew we were in for a huge year of partying at Club 207 and Float, and boy did they deliver! From celebrity hosted events at 207 and Float to huge acts at Intervention Sunday pool parties, Hard Rock Hotel redefined nightlife (and day-life!) in San Diego this year.

Keeping the A-list vibe going strong, Club 207 featured a celebrity hosted party with guest DJ Will.i.Am of Black Eyed Peas on May 8 (view photos), and pool parties at Float with Kassim Osgood on May 23 (view photos), and icon house DJ Paul Oakenfold on May 24 (view photos). Hard Rock kept summer nights hot with more celebrity hosts and live performances in July, including hip-hop group The Pack at 207 on July 2 (view photos), house DJ and producer Kaskade at Intervention on July 5 (view photos), model and Playboy star Jessica Burciaga at 207 on July 9 (view photos), and pop girls group Paradiso Girls at 207 on July 30 (view photos).

DiscoverSD: Following the launch of the all new Club 207 and Float in April 2009, what are the most significant changes and upgrades your management team has brought to nightlife at Hard Rock Hotel San Diego?
Andy Hersch: I think our greatest change is the attention to locals. As a management team we understand that the locals are the base of any good nightlife venue. We have found that San Diego has a great community that enjoys the offerings of a friendly vibe. We have also put a greater emphasis on music and entertainment to the clubs and have consistently brought in top name performers over the past year to create an experience unique to any other in San Diego. Artists like the Black Eyed Peas, LMFAO, Paul Oakenfold, IYAZ, Plain White T’s, Kaskade, Lil Jon, Scott Weiland and Shwayze have performed this year. That emphasis on entertainment will also carry through to our 2010 Intervention pool party season where we will feature a number of the world’s best DJ’s throughout the summer.

DSD: It’s been one hell of a year with numerous celebrity hosts and A-list performers! What were your favorite parties of the year?
AH: I really enjoyed the big events we had this year. The DJ's that we have had come through have been amazing. I was really impressed with how much fun Wintervention was and could not believe then energy Steve Angello put in the room. Halloween and New Years Eve were epic with over 4,000 guests attending. I love surprising our guests with the live performances in 207. You can expect that to continue on an even greater scale this year. We do often see a significant number of celebrities come through our doors mainly because they just enjoy the atmosphere here so it’s a preferred place to relax and party when they visit San Diego.

DSD: We can't wait for the anniversary party weekend! What can we expect on Friday and Saturday?
AH: We have incredible local DJ's Sid Vicious and G-Roy, and Scooter and Lavelle, as well as celebrity DJ and Ford model Sky Nellor. We also are privileged to have world renowned artist and record producer Jermaine Dupri and the Beastie Boys’ Mix Master Mike DJing. Live performances this weekend include internationally-acclaimed hip hop star Busta Rhymes and the Darling Stilettos, a gorgeous rock quartet mentored by Velvet Revolver’s Matt Sorum. 

DSD: Based on this year, what management methods are you going to change and what will you keep the same?
AH: As far as management methods, we intend on continuing with a good thing. We have found, trained and produced San Diego's friendliest staff and strive to provide the best possible service at all times. We want Float and 207 to be a place where everyone feels comfortable and welcome but also provides a first class experience.

DSD: Looking forward, what big parties do you have in the works this year?
AH: Our goal is to bring Intervention to the next level. With the talent booked this year, San Diego’s largest pool party will become an event that is geared to locals, as well as travelers. The weekly event is building a reputation as a destination in itself and its going to completely blow up in 2010. It starts April 18 with Paul Oakenfold.
