Cafe Sevilla Grand Opening Party Recap

Posted On : 9/8/2011 by DiscoverSD

Thursday, August 25, Café Sevilla celebrated the grand opening of their new location on Fifth Avenue in the Gaslamp Quarter with a huge bash hosted by DiscoverSD.com. The three-story lifestyle venue is known for its authentic Spanish cuisine, signature style tapas, elaborately decorated walls that imitate the elegance of traditional Spain, and a Salsa club that adds Latin flavor to the downtown nightlife scene.

Before the doors opened at 8 p.m., a line of guests was already stretching the length of the sidewalk in front of the restaurant. For the guests who entered during hosted hour, DiscoverSD reps and Sevilla staff handed out complimentary Sangria and Stoli vodka specials that were featured at the bar for the remainder of the night.

The restaurant, which is handsomely furnished for guests during normal business hours, was cleared out so the party patrons could walk around more freely and dance. Sevilla staff also catered to guests with complimentary Tapas and more Stoli specials. There was a live salsa band performing on the main floor, but guests were also encouraged to venture downstairs to the hip salsa club that features Bachata and Merengue every Tuesday and Thursday night. The entire room was filled with people and the dance floor was packed with amateur and experienced Salsa dancers alike.

Alex Guerrero, Sevilla’s Assistant Manager and Bar Manager to the club commented that, “It’s not usually like this. It’s normally busy but not packed.” We’d like to think that’s a good thing.

The team here at DiscoverSD.com had a blast, and this DiscoverSD Grand Opening bash definitely set the bar, promising the new Café Sevilla to be a Gaslamp mainstay. As for the team at Cafe Sevilla? We followed up with Mike Miller, and asked for his feedback. The self-described perfectionist jokingly complained about the room being over capacity and understaffed. Despite those succinct yet amusing problems, he seemed to be having just as much fun as the rest.

Spotted sipping Sangria and socializing with the DiscoverSD crew: Howard Solomon, of PB Ale House and Union Tap and Kitchen, Voyeur VIP Host Hotties Chance Curtis, Nick Mascetta & Farley Lucas, Dave Laurent of Eden & Side Bar, Christina Bacchia of Revive Salon, Shervia Sana of Life Nation, Nicole Sharp from the Hilton Bayfront, the lovely Kat Lewis of the Hard Rock Hotel and the always stylish, Francine Miley of Fashion Valley.  A huge thanks to all our friends at SignonSan Diego.com, The Union Tribune and Night&Day for coming out and supporting this successful event.
