From lounging along the La Jolla coast to dancing amid Gaslamp lights, San Diego nightlife is ever diverse and always evolving, making sure club and bar-hoppers are anything but bored.
Within the context of downtown's only recent nightlife emergence, classic club staples like On Broadway and Onyx Room still boast big lines every weekend. Newer clubs like Stingaree and Envy, however, are giving these older venues a run for their money.
With each coming year, we see new bars and clubs adding a certain charm, not to mention an element of competition, to the scene. Discover the top ten new San Diego nightlife venues, so far, in 2008.
Universal
EnDev ventured to Hillcrest for their latest San Diego club. This non-gay by definition but undeniably gay by practice venue is a Technicolor dream for club-goers, featuring themed table service and outrageous entertainment. Read more on Universal here. (pictured)
KIN Lounge
The Manchester Grand Hyatt completely revamped their poolside lounge - from décor to entertainment and even the name. The stunning view and striking cirque-style entertainment make KIN Lounge one of our top picks for '08. Read more on KIN here.
Bleu Bar
Imagine relaxing in a plush lounge chair, overlooking the sun setting behind the Pacific, with glimmering pool lights and a strictly A-List crowd all around. This is the new Bleu Bar at L'Auberge Del Mar Resort and Spa. Read more on Bleu Bar at L'Auberge here.
La Puerta
A delicious and authentic Mexican food restaurant and mellow tequila bar, La Puerta showed San Diego the new way to do Taco Tuesday. La Puerta is the newest creation by the makers of Confidential Loft and Lounge. Read more on La Puerta here.
Pacific Beach Ale House
We thought it'd never come, the new and improved Taylor's: Pacific Beach Ale House. While we still love Firehouse just across the street, we can't deny the pure joy of sunset happy hour on the upstairs deck.
Double Deuce
This huge country western themed bar initially had Gaslamp bar-goers a bit confused, but the originality and consistency earned Double Deuce a deserved spot on our list. Head to Double Deuce for a break from the typical downtown scene.
Lucky D's
This brand new all-American bar mixes the best of old school rock 'n' roll with our favorite sports, in the setting of exposed brick and sleek dark wood finish. The new Lucky D's hostel bar is a sure American sports bar hit for all seasons, with a side of new international hostel friends.
Toronado Bar
The San Francisco Toronado made its San Diego debut in North Park this year. Toronado is not for the faint of heart - with 50 beers on tap, not including the vast selection of bottles.
Tilted Kilt
This Irish themed sports bar might as well be within the PETCO Park campus. Located just outside the park, the Tilted Kilt is the ultimate sports bar for Padres fans. Oh, and the scantily clad school girl servers don't disturb the appeal.
Bare Back Grill - Gaslamp
In addition to the great New Zealand eats, the new Bare Back location promises quite a steady nightlife scene as well – whether for pre party happy hour or a long night of New Zealand style drinking.
Notably revamped and new-again venues: Club Montage, Moondoggies, and The Office (formerly Scolari's). Also check out the Top Ten New San Diego Restaurants.
