I was personally introduced to 3rd Corner in Ocean Beach by a girlfriend who frequents this quiet little beach town and was taken on a tour of the unassuming wine cellar by yet another friend.
Like a chain letter, I think one must be invited by a pal to explore this place. Otherwise, driving by, one would just assume the 3rd Corner is just another mysteriously placed shop in the lieu of quirky dives and bizarre boutiques that typically define OB.
Inside you are transported to an intimate little winery somewhere off the main stretch of vineyards in Napa. The 3rd Corner is set up so guests can browse the endless crates and, after much debate, choose the lucky bottle - or the lucky few. Guests can then choose to relax at one of the scattered tables inside amongst the bottles, lounge beside the oversize couches, wander to the quaint semi-outdoor patio or hang out at the bar and chat it up with some of the most knowledgeable vino experts around town.
With over 1,200 wines by the bottle and about 20 wines by the glass, 3rd Corner in Ocean Beach is certainly not lacking in variety. Pair that with the restaurant menu, which offers a wonderful assortment of tapas and entrees to enhance the experience. And even better, the kitchen is open until 1am - in case your hunger doesn't strike until after the last bottle.
The 3rd Corner also hosts a range of events and wine dinners that seasonally feature special guests from wineries across California. For events, expect to make a reservation, but on the average night the 3rd Corner, with its warm and casual atmosphere, embraces any and all, with or without reservation.
Insider Tip: In case you're not up for the full 3rd Corner experience, opt to take your bottle to go (it sure beats the neighborhood liquor store's selections).
