Fights at FLUXX: The Industry Boxing Recap

Posted On : 2/8/2012 by DiscoverSD

On Monday, Jan. 30th, FLUXX was transformed from a poppin’ dance club to a sanctioned sporting event for some punches and knockouts. Yes, we are referring to Industry Boxing Night. FLUXX definitely went big this night as the dance floor was replaced by a regulation-sized boxing ring and the bottle service tables acted as stands. The place filled to capacity, with everyone ready to watch some serious fights. While scanning the crowd, one could spot attendees from the RMD Group, Voyeur, Stingaree, Hard Rock Hotel, The West Group and more who all came to cheer on their respective fighters and support a great cause.

Victory MMA ring girls introduced each match as your industry favorites went head to head under the lights. The match-ups ranged from bartenders to bottle service girls, and they all kicked major butt. The main event showcased Bar West’s Chris Martin going head to head with Voyeur’s Kevin Switzer; the two fighters brought nothing but excitement and action to the jam-packed nightclub. But perhaps, the most entertaining and highly anticipated bout to see was the girl fight between Lincoln Room’s Ashley Randall and F6ix’s Nicole Culbertson. And yes, these chicks can fight!

Between matches WORM, the Master of Ceremonies, announced the raffle prize winners. All proceeds from raffle tickets were donated to the Community Youth Athletic Center.

Want the real story? Listen up to Chris Martin and Nicole Culbertson’s words of wisdom.

DiscoverSD: How did your fight match up against the other contestants? What can the people expect from your next fight? Or are you retiring with a 1-0 record?

Chris Martin: Haha, it was definitely a once in a lifetime opportunity. I have a new found respect for anyone that competes in combat sports on an amateur or professional level. I had considered retiring with my 1-0 amateur boxing record but I’m sure there will be a very deserving charity associated with Industry Boxing 2.0 which will need my ridiculousness to be a part of it. I’m always happy to help raise money for a good cause.

DSD: Guys always act hard in the gym, but you proved that myth wrong in the ring. How did you train for the event?

Nicole Culbertson: I've been going to Victory for almost two years now taking Muay Thai and Crossfit classes and then once I signed up for the fight I really got into the boxing more and sparring with a lot of the guys on the Victory team. Sparring one on one is a lot different then just dong a class; you learn how to take hits in the face and also learn more footwork and how to move around in the ring. I liked training with the guys because I can hit them harder without feeling bad about it. It was a lot of hard work and hours at the gym but in the end it was worth it.

DSD: How do you think the girl fight matched up against the boys?

NC: I mean who doesn't like to see a girl fight? I think our fight was one of the more entertaining ones besides the knockout of course, but we were the only girls crazy enough to get in there and throw punches at each other. Don't get me wrong all the guy fights were good and entertaining but throw some tits and ass into the ring and you catch the eyes of the crowd more.
