FLUXX has kept our downtown nightlife scene buzzing with constant change for two years, and counting. Since the nightclub’s big debut in March of 2010, new themes have transformed the space every season. We channeled our inner hippies with FLUXXadelic; we swam with mermaids during Aquatic; and we ventured into the dark side with Mysterium. In the summer of 2010, FLUXX unleashed Primal, a theme that morphed the club into a primordial jungle complete with wild dancers trapped in cages.
Most recently, FLUXX got all dolled up for Showstopper, a spring theme inspired by the glitz and glamour of Las Vegas showgirls. And now with summer officially underway, it’s time to celebrate the launch of yet another new 'FLUXXuation.' I chatted with Creative Director Anna Sindelar for the inside scoop on Ritual.
Under the Ritual spell, FLUXX will be re-born as an exotic rainforest inhabited by a sub-culture of ‘natives’ -- a part played by the club’s dancers, bartenders and VIP servers. The theme will come to life through whimsical, inspired décor, from hand-dyed Bargello sidewall panels, to Navajo prints and textured tapestries, custom-made dream catchers, and a bold interactive prop. Above the central dance floor will be a ‘jungle bridge’ that hangs from the ceiling and extends over the crowd with wild foliage.
According to Sindelar, "the bridge is the largest, custom prop the club has attempted to date."
FLUXX's skilled dancers are working with Zen Arts to choreograph new acrobatic routines, hanging from and flipping around the jungle bridge, while clad in fierce oversized headdresses. For the rest of the staff attire, expect to see on-trend fringe, vibrant color schemes, tribal makeup, and plenty of feather accessories.
FLUXX Ritual launches on Friday, June 15. The party will feature DJ Craig Smoove, with more entertainment to be announced. FLUXX Nightclub is located at 500 4th Ave. FLUXXsd.com
