It’s rare to turn on the radio or watch a TV show and not hear the beats by one of today’s most popular electro-pop bands, Foster The People. We first obsessed over the hit song “Pumped Up Kicks” which reached number one on Billboard’s Alternative Songs chart, and in watching Entourage, Gossip Girl and Saturday Night Live, we were introduced to “Call It What You Want”, “Don’t Stop (Color on the Walls” and “Houdini”. Foster The People’s debut album Torches became the soundtrack to summer lifestyle in San Diego.
Foster The People's addictive indie sound is created by twenty-something members Mark Foster (vocals, keyboards, piano, synthesizers, guitar, programming, percussion), Mark Pontius (drums and extra percussion), and Jacob “Cubbie” Fink (bass and backing vocals). The band was formed in 2009, and really hit the big spotlight in 2011. A few fun facts: “Cubbie” is a local La Costa Canyon high school graduate who grew up in Encinitas; and Mark Pontius used to play drums and shoot music videos for the indie pop band Malbec.
Foster The People’s fall tour is stopping at Soma in San Diego this Wednesday, October 19th before jet-setting off to Las Vegas, Amsterdam and France. Following the sold-out show, GuestHouse is hosting the official concert after party with entertainment by DJs Erick Diaz, Adam Salter and Gabe Vega. The guys of Foster the People will be partying, and we’re hoping for a spontaneous in-club performance. GuestHouse is the revamped first floor lounge within mega-club Stingaree in the Gaslamp Quarter. Get details here.
Wednesday is a big night for this downtown hot spot, as prior to the concert after party, GuestHouse will present a viewing party for MTV’s The Real World San Diego hosted by cast member Nate Stodghill. The occasion? This week’s episode follows Nate as he partners with local company Flex Watches to throw a fundraising event to benefit The Living Memoir at Stingaree. Head to GuestHouse at 8:30pm to hang with Nate and preview the episode before it airs live on MTV.
