Owned and operated by a Finnish family, Henry’s Pub brings
together the best of old world pub and California
cool. Picture this: lots and lots of beer. Good beer. And dancing. There’s also
eating, live music, people watching, and oh, more drinking. Located on 5th Avenue
in the heart of San Diego’s
Gaslamp,
Henry’s Pub boasts more than 10 beers on tap and over 40 bottled and domestic
beers. The pub even has its own brew—Henry’s Pale Ale—which stands quite well
on its own.
In addition to the miraculous beer selection supplemented by
a full bar, Henry’s also serves up scrumptious bar food. The kitchen doesn’t
stray too far from typical pub fare, but everything is reasonably priced, and
there are a few surprises among the classic hot wings and shrimp poppers, like
the chicken enchilada soup or grilled eggplant and Portobello sandwich.
Henry’s features a daily happy hour from 4 to 7:15 p.m.,
which includes half-priced appetizers and super drink discounts. You’re also
certain to find a live band or musician on the Henry’s stage any day of the
week. It’s not hard to spend all night at this particular pub, especially if
you snag a booth early on. Note, however, that Henry’s really cranks up the
volume as the evening wears on: music blasts, boisterous lines trail out the
door, and 5th Avenue
noise pollution filters in.
