Unfortunately, Isola Lounge is CLOSED
Before there was
Tower23 in Pacific Beach, there was Isola lounge. Though still
underrated on the Richter Scale, Isola is a inspirational variation
on other bars in the beach district. It’s the kind of place where
tank tops merge with spangly halters, white sundresses juxtapose with
jeans, and heels move in step with flip flops. There’s no need to
get overly dressed up when you visit Isola, but if you want to,
you’ll fit right in.
The owner hails
from Italy, naturally, and brought Pacific Beach both his love of
food and art. The latter is splashed onto Isola’s walls by his very
own hands, and is often changeable, depending on his whims. The food
is changeable as well, varying from season to season, and is
exceptionally personal. Where else can you order an appetizer made
from figs plucked from the owner’s own garden?
Because Isola
doesn’t have a full liquor license, cocktails are made with the
flexible Korean Vodka, Han. As a result, the drinks are less
alcoholic; yet they miss cheap vodka’s icky sting, and they go down
refreshingly smooth. The tapas menu is filled with delicious gems,
and it’s best to order a smattering of choices among your party and
share.
